The Wellness Comprehensive Eye Exam
Why is Wellness Care Important, Pandemic or not
Over the past year and a half, many of us have sacrificed our wellness healthcare in exchange for feeling safe from the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, it is important to remember that annual wellness visits with all of your doctors are essential for detecting and preventing diseases that may not present with obvious signs or symptoms.
Your Optometrist at Savoy, Siegel & Desai is no exception.
The American Optometric Association recommends a Wellness Comprehensive Eye Examination annually for school-aged children, at least every 2 years for adults and annually again over the age of 65.
A Wellness Comprehensive Eye Examination begins with a review of your medical and visual history, including family history of systemic and ocular disease. Following, we will check your vision, determine your eyeglass prescription and evaluate eye teaming & focusing skills. Next, we will assess the eyelids and ocular surface, measure eye pressure and examine the crystalline lens. Finally, we will recommend either a dilated eye exam or imaging to examine the retina and optic nerve--two visually essential structures that are found inside the eyeball.
With a battery of these tests and procedures, we can detect more than 270 serious health conditions that include cataracts, glaucoma, migraine headaches, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, autoimmune disease and cancers.
Additionally, Optometrists are trained in detecting and managing vision related learning disorders in children and young adults.
While our objective at Savoy, Siegel & Desai is to ensure every patient leaves our office with 20/20 vision, we strive primarily to meet all of our patients’ visual goals. We understand that vision does not have a one-size-fits-most solution; therefore, we tailor every single eye exam and optical encounter to meet your needs.
