Top 5 Reasons to Visit the Eye Doctor Before the First Day of School

August is Children's Vision and Learning Month and whether it's the first day of 1st grade or 12th, the best way to start the school year is with a Comprehensive Eye Exam.

Here are our Optometrist's Top 5 Reasons:

  1. It's probably been over a year! With the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic and remote learning last fall, many parents opted out of some back-to-school necessities like the Comprehensive Eye Exam. Over the course of 1-2 years, children grow! With growth we see many visual changes such as worsening near-sightedness (Myopia), changes in far-sightedness (Hyperopia) and onset of eye turns (Strabismus).

  2. Your child may be having difficulty learning and it's due to changes in their vision! 80% of learning is done via the visual system, but many children do not know how to communicate that the blur or distortion in their vision is affecting their school work. These students struggle to learn and may fall behind in class.

  3. Technology is hard on the eyes! It's time to upgrade your child's glasses to include Blue-Tech Lenses. This ensures that their eyes are protected from harmful high-frequency light emitted by the electronic devices used for school and learning. As a bonus, Blue-Tech Lenses reduce headaches and visual discomfort associated with prolonged screen time.

  4. It's time for something new! Whether school is remote or in-person this fall, good self esteem is key to success. Maybe it's time to upgrade that old eyeglass frame that doesn't fit too well anymore, or maybe it's time to treat them to Contact Lenses. Either way, our Optometrists and Opticians are here to help!

  5. It's important to create healthy habits now! The American Optometric Association recommends a Comprehensive Eye Exam every year for students and ever other year for healthy adults. Starting young teaches your children the importance of their vision and promotes healthy habits in the future.
